Thank you, and you’re so right. There’s just not much magic in a dish that started out in a factory before hitting the microwave on its way to your table. The flip side, of course, is that holes in the wall can suffer from an occasional inexplicably bad night. We just have to stay patient.

You certainly make the prospect sound appealing. Even around home, we like to visit the hole-in-the-wall places over the chain establishments. There is definitely something to be said for experiencing the true culture of a place, and not just the tourist traps.

What a transportive read this was--wandering the quiet, snow-covered streets of a European city sounds so lovely right now. Now I’m dreaming of my study abroad days in Lyon...it’s a beautiful city in the winter, but I would tell anyone traveling there to follow your advice on cold weather dressing to the letter!
