Kansas City is supposed to be a sister city to Seville, Spain. The Country Club Plaza, a bastion of fountains and sculpture, was originally designed to take advantage of that relationship with architecture inspired by Moorish Spain. Not Catalonian Spain, of course, but, at least, they're both on the Iberian peninsula. Unfortunately, I can't paste an image in here, but it's especially colorful this time of year.

That sister city thing is interesting--it does mean something, but what I'm not exactly sure. Maybe free lodging for visiting city fathers? Our little town in Belgium is paired with New Iberia, deep in the Louisiana Bayou, and Chennai, India, formerly called Madras, and known for the heat of its curries. They must have some interesting conversations!

Yes, you can't let random events get in the way of travel--if only because, after such events, the security people turn out in force to prevent copycats. And every place has its share of weirdos. Thanks for reading, and good to hear from you!

BTW, thanks for the movie recommendations! That's an added bonus to your piece.

We’ve watched both multiple times. And we think of the dentist every time we see a safety debate on FB. The truth is--as a Kashmiri friend once told us--your chances of catastrophe even in an active war zone are near nil. Much less on Martha’s Vineyard!

Loved your piece on Barcelona and love Barcelona, one of my favorite cities. I will add a link to your post to one I did about the Spanish Civil War and the excellent historical tour we took in Barcelona. https://jimbuie.substack.com/p/a-cautionary-tale-from-spain
